“Standards of Beauty” is based around the medical anatomical bust – which is exhibits the standard of organ placements and the human body, and Botticelli’s “Birth of Venus” – the universal symbol of classical beauty. This is my take on Clemente Susini’s Anatomical Venus waxwork. This piece is about the difference in beauty standards between Taiwan and United Kingdom – In UK, women of many shapes and sizes were considered beautiful, while in Taiwan, one needs to be stick thin, pale with clean face, to be considered conventionally beautiful.
